Today’s Plague

Throughout history, obesity has created different perceptions in different times and cultures. Sometimes it means strength, power; It is sometimes associated with fertility, abundance and abundance. Nowadays, it is referred to as a disease.

Evolutionarily, starting from hunter-gatherer humans; The transition to settled life and the agricultural revolution approximately 10 thousand years ago, followed by the industrial revolution and a process that continues until today. We can talk about two separate breaking points. Agriculture and transition to settled life, industrial revolution. These two facts enabled us to make food unlimited, to store it and to turn it into a means of trade. Our eating habits of tens of thousands of years have suddenly changed. Our protein-rich and carbohydrate-poor diet was suddenly reversed. In parallel with industrialization, obesity inevitably increased with urban-style living.

We can say that the biggest pandemic today is obesity. No country has been successful in the fight against obesity. Far from being successful, obesity rates continue to rise.
